discussions with spaces / i have missed you
4-month research
Funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media in the NEUSTART KULTUR programme, DIS-TANZEN aid programme of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.

discussion with spaces is one of the results of a 4 month research called "i have missed you"  which came from inner dialogue as antikainen was trying to keep up a practice for herself as a performing artist during the long second lockdown.

discussion with spaces is a particular result which is a performance situation where the performer rosalie kubny and antikainen are practicing and performing one of the exercises that have formed itself through the research practice which included moving, being, observing, writing and sensing.

the research arises from the question how we are physically influenced by our environment and how those shifts of one's own physical being influence the mental and intangible being. a big part of this research was the realization of trust through transparency and the need of sharing even if one wishes for solitude and is granted with it. this brought antikainen into the work of relating and discussing with the environment solely through being and moving.

The research time gave Antikainen the chance to dive into developing a practice emerging from themes that inspires her: coming into motion and movement in collaboration with others and other materials such as the space around you. Antikainen wishes to open up dialogue between the people and the environment through her artistic work. It can also mean the conversation of the internal and external world.
The research included also a 2-day workshop held online in June.

The questions of intimacy and embodied experiences of one's own realm have always interested Antikainen but through the pandemic situation, these were the questions for Antikainen not only in her own practice as an artist but also in our regular life being. How does the collective and individual experience influence the reality one lives in? What are the common experiences and how do they manifest in the body: in the matter of body language and body posture, internal experiences? How to approach that intimacy and what is it?

"A quote from a colleague comes to mind and it goes something like this: within a frame of a frame, you have freedom.
I recently was reminded by this because I was so busy with how can one come to motion in restriction or rather condensed energy/atmosphere/space. It is a frame inside another frame, where I can create even more frames.
Without any frame or limit, matter evaporates, spreads everywhere. In order to be in order or create an order of movement whether it’s choreographed or composed in the moment it needs a frame and a reference to something. Even if it’s something like that it only happens in one defined space. When one starts to create, basically anything, within the creation frames accumulates rather naturally. Working on something focused and mind to it, frames start to appear and it is a skill to name them." from the notes of the research period / June 2021
